A skin tag is a small, soft, benign (non-cancerous) growth that hangs off the skin.
They’re made of loose collagen fibers, blood vessels, and skin, and are usually flesh-colored or slightly darker. Skin tags are harmless, painless, and very common—especially in areas where the skin folds or rubs together, such as:
Neck | Underarms | Eyelids | Under the breasts | Groin area
Causes can include friction, genetics, hormonal changes, weight changes, or aging. They’re more common in adults, especially those over 40, and in people with diabetes or insulin resistance.
